Alvaro Santiago began studying art at the Fine Arts School of the Benito Juarez University in 1966, and in 1975 he moved to Mexico City to begin his studies at the National Painting, Sculpture and Engraving School (La Esmeralda). Influenced by his studies, Santiago's work include a wide range of artistic techniques and formats from painting and drawing to engraving and wire sculpture. Santiago's work is included in a number of private and public collections such as the Amparo Museum (Puebla, Mexico) and the Museum of Latin American Art.
