GUSTAVO ACEVESGustavo Aceves (b. 1957, Mexico City) currently lives andworks in Pietrasanta, Italy. Aceves is known for his powerfulpaintings of the human figure, which draw on classicalpictorial traditions whilst using the monumental scale andstrong colours common to Mexican murals. His work hasbeen exhibited around the world since the late 1970sincluding the Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes in MexicoCity, the Venice Biennale and the Beijing Biennale, and isheld in major private and permanent collections includingMuseo Memoria y Tolerancia, Mexico City and theVatican Museum, Rome. He was one of the youngestartists in Christie’s and Sotheby’s new Latin American salesin New York in the early 1990s.
