He was a painter, sculptor, draftsman, and engraver from Zacatecas, born in 1923. He studied painting and sculpture at La Esmeralda, defining his style within abstraction. He completed part of his artistic training in Paris. In Mexico, his first solo exhibition was at the Galería Proteo in 1954, and he later exhibited in France, Italy, Japan, the United States, and Brazil. In 1984, he was awarded the National Prize for Sciences and Arts. He died in 1985 at the age of 62, and a posthumous tribute was held in his honor at the Palace of Fine Arts. His work has been a crucial point of reference in the study of Mexican post-muralist art.
